It was barely 20 years ago that wooden clubs dominated the market, but nowadays it is 100% composite clubs that apply. Composite means when there are several composite materials and in hockey it is carbon fiber, glass fiber and aramid that apply.
The more expensive a club becomes, the more carbon fiber material is used and the lighter the club becomes. Read more about the difference between expensive and cheap hockey sticks here.
To learn more about how a hockey stick works, it may be worth knowing how it is designed and manufactured. Below I have found some clips that show and explain in more detail how a composite mallet is made.
It is both an interesting and expensive process to manufacture a hockey stick and it is well worth investing in a quality stick if you have the finances and resources for it!
Hope you enjoyed the clips!
